Q.What
is the best treatment for head lice and sould we treat the entire
house?
A.Lice are strictly a medical pest,
and as such, must be treated by a dermatologist only. The lice
will not survive for more that 48 hours off of the human host,
so there is no need for treatment of the house. The homeowner
will want to launder the sheets and linenes in the hottest water
wash setting and the hottest dryer setting unil the lice are gone.
If the customer is patient and does not mind a little mess, there
is a home remedy that works well. Tell them to take olive oil
or mayonnaise and rub well into the affected individual' hair
and scalp. Then they should place a tight fitting plastic shower
cap over the hair of the head of this individual.
Next they should have the person sleep overnight 8-12 hours with
this preparation in place and shower off the next morning. Have
them repeat this process 7 days later for 1 to 2 more times, as
needed. The oil/mayonnaise will suffocate the adult lice and the
subsequent preparations will suffocate any nits that have hatched
into adult lice in the subsequent week or two weeks later.
Obviously, it is best if they plan to do these treatments on Friday
or Saturday night Lice
